FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Do I need to check in when I get to TPTC? YES

 

All players, guests, visitors, anyone taking a lesson or here for a special events ie Round Robins  must check in with the Club Monitor, prior to proceeding to the courts, there are no exceptions.

 

I am new to TPTC and/or new to tennis, will I be able to find partners to play with?

 

TPTC hosts many events throughout the season to assist players in getting to know one another.  Our really popular Tuesday daytime and Wednesday night round robins bring out all levels of players and many find friends to play with during the balance of the week.  There are also Ladders, Tournaments and Special Events all geared to assist you to meet and play with people you may not otherwise get to know.

 

Do I or my child need to be a member to take lessons?

 

No.  You do not need to be an adult member to take lessons at our club.   We offer lessons to Non-Members.   Currently we have a promotion that a junior will get a free membership ($90 Value) if they register for any junior programs. Parents do not need to be members to play with their child at the club however you will need to pay a guest fee to play at our club with your child, which is $10 per visit.

 

What do I require for tennis?

 

Proper tennis attire and footwear are required. A comfortable pair of tennis shoes. Sunscreen and a hat or visor are recommended when it’s sunny! You must bring your own personal filled water bottle to stay hydrated.  You may refill your water bottle from the fountain at the end of the building or from the water dispenser in the Clubhouse.  The club sells tennis balls at the front desk, and balls are provided for socials.  The Club does not provide stringing services, however we can provide a the name of a member who strings racquets.

How do I make suggestions to the Board of Directors?

 

Talk to the Monitor on duty, talk to a Board member, email the board at info@tptc.ca  or, email any individual Board member.  Attend and speak up at the Annual General Meeting in October.  This is your club, communications will help to improve it.

 

Why can't I book Court Six (6)?

 

Court Six can only be booked for lessons or summer camps. Members can NOT book Court 6 for regular play including during Public Hours.

MEMBERS CAN NOT BOOK COURT SIX FOR REGULAR PLAY.

 

Can I get private or group lessons at TPTC?

 

Private and group lessons are scheduled directly with our Pro’s.  Please see the “Lessons” section on this website under the “Play” category for further detail.  Or ask for them at the clubhouse and they will assess your needs in person.

 

Do I need to be a member to use the courts at TPTC?

 

If you are not a member of Thorncliffe Park Tennis Club, and not a guest of a Member, but wish
to book a court, you can call the Club  or walk-up to the clubhouse and ask the Club
Monitor if the time you are looking for is available. If the court is available, you can pay online
using either credit card or e-transfer payments.

1. You will need to provide the Club Monitor with your credit card information so that they
can enter it into our system to pre-authorize your payment. Credit card information will
not be stored on our system.
Or
2. E-transfer the guest fee to monitors@tptc.ca and the Club Monitor will check our email
box to ensure the e-transfer has been completed.
One the guest fees have been paid, the Club Monitor will book the court for you and ask you t0
sign the guest waiver at the Club. There will be no refunds for guest fees paid.
Guest fees are $10.00 per player.

Guest Policy applies to Non Members using the courts. 

Non Members can use the courts up to six times per year and must abide by all the rules of TPTC.

 

 

 

 

 

 

COURT BOOKINGS

 

How do I book court?


ALL COURT BOOKINGS MUST BE DONE ONLINE using our court booking system.

 

 You can book all courts 7 days in advance.  For example, on Monday at 8am bookings will open for the following Sunday.  To make it easier for you, the Online Booking tool only shows the dates you can book. You are permitted to have 3 bookings within the 7-day rolling system, unless booking during non prime times, when there is no reservations.  

 

What if I am rained out, do I have to cancel?

 

In Case of Rain:

The court bookings will be cancelled as soon as the monitor/or Board member sees that the courts are not playable.

When an online court booking gets cancelled by the club, the person who had booked the court will receive an email notification with the cancellation reason stated in the email.

If you are unsure if inclement weather has affected the courts at the club, please call the club and speak with the monitor on duty or email the club. 

If you have not received a cancellation, that means that you’re still expected to show up for your court (see Rule about no-shows).

 

Can I pre-book my ladder matches?
Ladder players will have to find a mutually convenient time to play and ensure they have the booking room. 

 

Can I book before or after my team match?

Yes, but you will need to see the court monitor to book a court and if a court is available.  

 

What if a team match goes long and I have the 9pm court booked?

The court monitor will endeavor to assign you a free court, but team play has priority (see Rule about booking courts after a Team Match).  Teams will do their best to start on time but members should book the court understanding that there is a chance they may start late

 

Can I book for 2 consecutive hours for singles? 

No, bookings may not be made consecutively for singles play. You can book one hour for singles or two hours for doubles and then see if there are any open courts afterwards. If there are free courts, you must check with the Club Monitor to ensue the court is free, and have them book you into the court, prior to beginning play

 

What if my partner doesn’t have the booking but I do? You must wait until both parties have the available booking room.

 

What if the court monitor is not available to check in with for my booked court? During daytime play, (non prime time) there may not be a monitor available and we rely on members using the courts they have booked appropriately.  During Prime Time you must wait until the Club Monitor checks you in. Only then can you proceed to your booked court

 

 

 

What if the courts are empty, can I walk on, regardless of my upcoming bookings? 

 

You must first check with the Club Monitor to verify what courts are available and who will register you in the system and assign you a court on a “first come, first served” basis. 

 

Can I book a court for myself to practice serving? No, you must have two names to book a court. If you would like to practice serving, speak to the Club Monitor or email the club to see if there are any non-peak times to practice your serve.

 

What do I do if someone has booked a court in my name but I didn’t agree to it? 

 

Email club immediately at info@tptc.ca to report this so it doesn’t count against your booking. Upon verification, the court will then be cancelled.

 

What is the no show policy?

 

Reservations cancelled within one hour of the reserved court time and no-shows (when no one on the court booking has shown up within 15 minutes after the reserved time) will receive a warning email on the first offense.  Subsequent "no show" violations will result in suspension, up to and including Membership revocation.

 

If you are suspended, you will receive an email notifying you of the suspension. During this period, you will not be able to log into the booking system and your name will not be available to be booked by the Club or any other member. Any existing bookings will also be cancelled.

 

·             1st offense: Warning

·             2nd offense: One week suspension

·             3rd offense: One month suspension

·             4th offense: Permanent suspension or revocation of membership

 

Can I make a booking with a guest?

 

Yes, as a member you are allowed to bring a guest, however, you must register them on the booking system and pay the fee online, prior to arriving at the club.  Fees are not collected at the Club.  Non members can arrange court bookings through the Club Monitor.  All fees must be paid prior to entering the courts.

 

Can I get additional bookings other than my three rolling bookings? 

 

Members can now book an additional hours of court time during daytime hours (12:00pm -5:00pm) each day.

For example, you may now book a court for 1:00pm – 3:00pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Singles or Doubles. 

Non Prime Time bookings will not count towards your rolling three-booking limit during Prime Time (7:00am – 12:00pm; 3:00pm – Close).

Daytime hours are displayed on the system in BLACK text.
Prime Time hours are displayed in RED text.

 

How do I cancel or make changes to my court booking? 

 

You make cancel or make changes to your court booking up to one hour prior to your court booking.
